Gov. Elect of  Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo The United States Government has hailed the outcome of the just-concluded 2021 Anambra State Governorship Election. This was contained in a statement from the US Mission in Nigeria, titled, ‘Statement on the concluded Anambra State gubernatorial election’ on Wednesday. The US government said the outcome of the election reflected the will of the people. The PUNCH had reported that a former Governor of Central Bank and candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, won the November 6 governorship election in Anambra. INEC’s Chief Returning Officer for the election, Professor Florence Obi, announced this on Monday at the commission’s head office in Awka. Party agents, reporters, and observers among others had waited until about 12:15am for the declaration of a winner before events took a different turn as a result of Professor Obi’s announcement. “We have collated results from 20 out of 21 local government areas,” said the chief returning officer who doubles as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar in Cross River State.

Prof. Chukwuma Soludo Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has expressed shock over the technology breakdown of the Bimodal Verification Accreditation (BVA) system. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been experiencing technical challenges in the use of the BVA device to capture voters in some parts of the state. Soludo, who arrived the Polling Unit 002 ,Ward 13, at Ofiyi Square, Isuofia in Aguata Local Government Area, at about 12:15p.m., could not be captured by the BVA system.

Voters are protesting the alleged unavailability of original result sheets in Polling Unit 002, Enem Hall, Otolo Ward 2 in Nnewi North Local Government Area. Eyewitness reports reveal that the original result sheets were not brought by electoral officials. A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member, Chima Christian, said: “We have refused the commencement of accreditation/voting because the INEC officials did not come with original result sheet.

The explosion, from a kerosene tank kiosk opposite Kubwa modern market in Abuja, happened around 7pm Friday. After the powerful explosion, the kerosene tanker jumped from its base on the ground and landed on a nearby building’s roof.

The Lagos State Government disclosed that 38 bodies recovered from the collapse site at Gerard Road, Ikoyi, are ready for identification by families.
